Newborn photography and baby portraits in Nairobi at your baby’s pace
Remember how small they were
The earliest months can feel both full and fleeting. Tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, alert expressions and the way your baby settles in your arms all change quickly. Newborn photography gives your family an honest, beautiful record of this beginning.
Shammah Media provides newborn and baby photography in Nairobi with a flexible, caregiver-led pace. We can focus on the baby, photograph connection with parents or guardians, include siblings, or create a balanced collection of all three. The session adapts to feeding, changing, soothing and rest instead of expecting your baby to follow a rigid shot list.
Your baby’s welfare always comes before a particular pose or photograph. A parent or authorised caregiver remains present and makes decisions throughout the session. Awake expressions, natural movement and photographs in loving arms are as valuable as sleeping images; no single pose is required for the collection to feel complete.

Choose the baby photography experience you need

Newborn photography
Preserve the small details and early connection through simple baby portraits, caregiver images and immediate-family photographs. The achievable sequence follows your baby’s comfort, alertness and needs on the day.

Baby photography
Older babies bring changing expressions, movement and personality. We plan around what your child currently does comfortably rather than assuming they can sit, stand or look towards the camera on cue.

Baby milestone photography
Mark one meaningful stage or create sessions across several agreed dates. Milestone photographs can show growth and changing character without comparing your child with a universal development timetable.

Parent and baby portraits
The way your baby is held, soothed and loved belongs at the heart of the story. We guide comfortable portraits with parents or guardians and can discuss whether feeding or other personal moments are included.

Siblings and immediate family
Include brothers, sisters and a whole-family portrait through a short, supervised sequence. We keep expectations appropriate for each child’s age and never require a sibling to hold or touch the baby.

At-home newborn sessions
Home can reduce travel and give the images familiar context. We assess space, light, privacy and access before confirming the plan, then work within a manageable area where caregivers can continue the baby’s normal care.
A beautiful collection does not depend on one pose
Online newborn photographs can make one sleeping expression or highly styled setup seem essential. It is not. Your baby may be alert, feed more often than expected, prefer to be held or move through the session differently from another child. These moments do not spoil the photography; they help make it yours.
We plan simple, appropriate images that can include the baby resting naturally, close details, caregiver arms, family connection and the home or chosen setting. A reference image can help explain the mood or colour you like, but it does not guarantee that the same pose, prop or result is suitable or available.
We do not force a baby into a position or leave a baby unsupported for a photograph. If a setup is not appropriate for the child or cannot be created within the available conditions, we choose another way to tell the story.

How your newborn or baby session works
Tell us your baby’s age on the proposed date, your available date range, preferred setting and who will join. Mention siblings’ ages, privacy preferences and any images or setups you do not want.
We consider room to move, available light, privacy, caregiver access and space for normal baby care. At home, you can identify the rooms you are comfortable using and remove private documents or unwanted items.
We agree on the most important baby, caregiver and sibling photographs. Where practical, sibling and whole-family images happen early so children are not expected to wait through the full appointment.
Feeding, changing, soothing and breaks are part of the session. The caregiver decides when the baby needs attention, when a setup should change and whether photography should pause or stop.
Your selected images are professionally edited and delivered according to your quotation. Our normal photography turnaround is two to four weeks. If you have an announcement or gift deadline, share it before booking.
Feeding, changing and breaks are welcome
Your baby does not need to arrive already asleep or remain settled throughout the appointment. Build the day around normal care rather than attempting to create a perfect routine for the camera. Bring the feeding, changing and comfort supplies you would ordinarily need away from home.
The caregiver controls feeding method, timing and privacy. We photograph feeding only when it is specifically requested and agreed. If you prefer complete privacy, photography pauses and resumes when you are ready.
An unsettled period does not mean the session has failed. We can simplify the setup, photograph caregiver connection, pause or finish according to the agreed time and the baby’s needs. Completing every optional idea is never more important than the child’s welfare.
Parents and caregivers belong in the photographs
You may feel tired, self-conscious or more focused on the baby than yourself, but your presence gives the collection its emotional centre. Your child will one day see how they were held and welcomed, not whether every detail of your appearance felt perfect at the time.
Choose comfortable clothing in colours that complement the baby’s items and the setting. Large logos and very busy patterns can draw attention away from faces and connection, but you do not need to dress formally or identically.
Tell us which parents, guardians or caregivers will participate and whether any relationship needs particular privacy. We can create whole-family portraits, each caregiver with the baby and smaller details without expecting everyone to remain in every setup.
Include siblings without pressure
Explain the session in simple, age-appropriate language and keep the sibling portion short. A familiar adult should remain focused on each child while the photographer works; photography does not replace supervision.
We do not force a sibling to hold, touch or pose with the baby. Depending on age, comfort and the setting, alternatives may include sitting beside a caregiver, looking towards the baby from a safe position or creating a family photograph with adult support.
Grandparents can join when group size, seating, timing and access remain manageable. If the main goal is a larger portrait collection with several households, a separate family photography session in Nairobi may give everyone more time and comfort.
Props, clothing and meaningful details
Simple clothing, wraps or family-supplied items can give the photographs personal meaning. Tell us what you hope to use and why it matters. Every item must be suitable for the actual baby and setting, so bringing a prop does not guarantee that it will appear in a particular setup.
Do not assume that outfits, wraps, baskets or other props are supplied unless they appear in your quotation. We identify what Shammah Media will provide and what you will bring, which prevents uncertainty on the day.
Names, birth details or sentimental objects can be photographed when you want them included. Consider whether any information should remain private before the images are shared or turned into an announcement.
Timing without a narrow deadline
There is no website rule that can decide the right photography date for every baby or family. Recovery, travel, health circumstances, feeding and personal readiness differ. Choose a date range that feels appropriate for your family, seek qualified guidance where relevant and then ask us to confirm availability.
Meaningful baby photographs remain possible beyond a narrow “newborn” window. The visual approach simply changes with the child’s current stage. A more alert or mobile baby may give you expressions and interaction that were not possible earlier.
For milestone sessions, tell us the stage you want to remember without expecting the photographer to assess development. We plan around what your baby currently does comfortably and follow caregiver direction.
A clean and manageable session environment
Whether we work at home or another approved setting, the photography area should allow safe movement, ordinary baby care and caregiver access. Keep unnecessary people and objects to a manageable level so the space does not become crowded.
Shared fabrics, surfaces and any supplied item must be handled appropriately for the session. If illness or another circumstance affects attendance, contact Shammah Media privately and rely on qualified professional advice where needed. Your written booking terms will explain the applicable rescheduling process.
If another supplier such as a hair or makeup professional attends, confirm their timing, space and role in advance. The baby and caregivers should not lose the calm working area to an unplanned crowd.
Protect your child’s privacy
Baby photographs may reveal a child’s face, name, birth details, home or family relationships. You decide who receives the completed images, whether gallery access is restricted and what may be shared publicly.
Booking Shammah Media does not automatically authorise us to publish the photographs in a portfolio or advertising. Any promotional use is discussed separately from delivery to your family. We do not identify children or private homes without appropriate permission.
Tell relatives about any sharing restrictions when you send them the images. Once a child’s photograph is posted publicly, it can move beyond the original audience, so decide on the digital footprint before delivery rather than after widespread sharing.
Print the details you never want to forget
Digital files are easy to share with relatives, while a photobook or framed image turns the session into a lasting family record. Shammah Media can provide a photobook, canvas print or frame when the product is included in your quotation.
Choose the image or sequence first, then confirm crop, orientation, size, finish and quantity. For a milestone book, consistent file organisation and a balanced selection will tell the story better than many near-duplicate pages.

Newborn and baby photography in Nairobi and across Kenya
Shammah Media is based at Taveta Court on Tsavo Road in Nairobi and can photograph suitable at-home and confirmed-location baby sessions across the city. Sessions elsewhere in Kenya can be assessed according to availability, travel, setting and caregiver requirements. Any travel, accommodation or venue costs will be shown in your quotation where applicable.
What determines your session quotation
Your quotation is based on the location, session duration, participants, travel, planned setups and finished products. A simple parent-and-baby session at home and a larger family session in a hired space have different requirements, so the scope is made clear before you book.
The quotation will state what is included, who supplies any agreed items, the expected turnaround and any optional prints. If you have a budget range, share it with your most important photographs and we can recommend a focused direction.
