Maternity photography in Nairobi that honours your story

Your pregnancy, your pace, your photographs

Pregnancy can feel powerful, tender, joyful and deeply personal. Maternity photography gives you space to pause and preserve this chapter in a way that feels true to you—not as a standard set of poses, but as portraits shaped around your comfort, identity and family.

Shammah Media provides maternity photography in Nairobi for expectant parents who want individual portraits, photographs with a partner, sibling moments or a combination of these. Your session can take place at home, outdoors or in a suitable controlled setting, depending on privacy, access and the visual direction you prefer.

You remain in control of what you wear, how you are photographed and which images stay private. We guide positioning, lighting and composition while allowing time for breaks and adjustments. The result is a polished collection that celebrates the person and the story, not only the pregnancy.

Choose a maternity session that feels like you

Individual maternity portraits

Make the expectant parent the complete focus. We create a considered range of full-length portraits, closer expressions and detail-led images, with the level of coverage and formality agreed before the session.

Maternity photography with your partner

Include your partner through guided portraits and natural interaction. We can balance photographs together with time for individual maternity portraits, so the main purpose of the session remains clear.

Maternity portraits with children

Older siblings can become part of the story through short, age-appropriate photographs with the expectant parent or whole family. We plan the most important combinations early and adapt the pace around their attention.

At-home maternity sessions

Home can offer privacy, familiarity and meaningful personal context. It is also practical when you prefer less travel or want the photographs connected to everyday family life. We assess the available space, light and backgrounds before confirming the direction.

Outdoor maternity photoshoots

An outdoor setting can add movement, landscape and natural light. We choose a location with realistic access, privacy, safe footing, weather options and changing arrangements—not only visual appeal.

Controlled and studio-style portraits

A simple background and controlled lighting can create focused, timeless images. Studio or hired-space availability, facilities, wardrobe arrangements and any venue fee are confirmed for your date before booking.

Portraits with personal meaning

Your maternity photographs can be quiet and minimal, warm and family-led, elegant and styled, or grounded in cultural and personal details. Reference images are welcome when they help explain the mood, light or clothing you like, but your session will be created for your body, comfort and story rather than copied frame for frame.

Meaningful elements might include a fabric, heirloom, baby item, flower or traditional garment. A small number of considered details usually adds more significance than filling every setup with props. Tell us why an item matters so we can use it with intention.

If the portraits are for a private record, announcement, gift or wall display, say so at the beginning. The final use influences composition, privacy, delivery timing and whether we leave space for text in any selected image.

How your maternity photoshoot works

Tell us your available date range, location preference, who will join you and how you want the portraits to feel. Mention clothing ideas, cultural considerations, privacy needs and any image you definitely want.

We discuss seating, movement, changing space, travel, temperature and the level of coverage you are comfortable with. You can identify poses, angles, clothing or setups you do not want before the session begins.

We agree on how many looks fit the booked time and who supplies garments, fabrics, hair, makeup and accessories. If an outside stylist or venue is involved, their timing and costs remain visible.

On the day, the agreed priorities guide our work while still allowing us to respond to natural interactions and important moments as they happen.

Your selected images are professionally edited and delivered according to your quotation. Our normal photography turnaround is two to four weeks. If you have an announcement or gift deadline, share it before booking.

When to schedule maternity photography

There is no single photography date that is right for every pregnancy. Your comfort, schedule, personal circumstances and the kind of photographs you want all matter. Rather than prescribing a week, we ask for a preferred date range and help you compare practical availability, location and styling.

If health or comfort affects your choice, rely on your own judgement and appropriate healthcare guidance. Shammah Media does not provide medical advice. Our role is to make the photography plan practical once you decide that you wish to proceed.

If you are travelling to Nairobi or coordinating relatives from abroad, share the complete window when you are available. A flexible range gives us a better chance of choosing a comfortable day and managing weather or travel changes.

What to wear for maternity portraits

Choose clothing that supports how you want to see yourself in the photographs. A fitted dress can define shape, a flowing garment can create movement, and familiar clothing can make the portraits feel intimate and personal. None is automatically better than the others.

Plan only the number of changes that fit comfortably within your session. Confirm where you can change privately and bring suitable base layers for the chosen outfits. Clothing that fits well and allows you to move is usually more useful than an elaborate look that needs constant adjustment.

Shammah Media does not assume that dresses, fabrics, makeup, hair styling or accessories are included. We state any agreed provision in your quotation so you know what to bring and what has been arranged. Cultural, religious and modesty preferences are welcomed and planned respectfully.

Simple jewellery, flowers or a meaningful baby item can complete a look without overwhelming it. If you want bare-skin or body-focused portraits, the exact coverage, privacy and people present are discussed in advance and remain subject to your consent throughout the session.

Include your partner and children

Your partner does not need to be present for the whole appointment to have an important place in the collection. We can photograph the essential images together first, then continue with individual portraits. Coordinated clothing helps the images connect, but no one needs to dress identically.

For older siblings, keep expectations light. We use short interactions rather than expecting a child to hold a pose or touch the pregnancy bump on command. Share their ages and usual routine, bring a familiar essential if helpful, and let us know if they need time to settle into a new setting.

Parents or authorised caregivers remain responsible for children during the session. If you want a wider portrait collection with grandparents or several households, it may be more comfortable to plan a separate family photography session in Nairobi instead of overloading the maternity appointment.

Privacy and dignity from planning to delivery

Maternity portraits may involve personal clothing, body-focused compositions and a private stage of family life. You decide the level of coverage, who is present and who receives the completed images. If a changing area or more private setting is important, make it part of the location decision.

Consent remains specific to each setup. Agreeing to one style does not require you to continue with another, and you can ask to stop or change an idea during the session. We can still create a strong collection when a planned outfit or pose no longer feels right.

Booking Shammah Media does not automatically give us permission to publish maternity photographs in a portfolio or advertising. Any promotional use is discussed separately from your paid delivery. Private clients and children are not identified without appropriate permission.

Editing that still looks like you

Professional editing brings consistency to colour, exposure and the overall finish. It is not an invitation to treat normal features as defects or change your identity. We approach skin, clothing and background distractions with care while preserving a credible likeness.

If you have a specific retouching concern, tell us before the session. Photography, clothing, light and editing expectations can then work together. Body reshaping, skin-tone changes or extensive alterations are not assumed as part of standard editing.

At home, outdoors or in a controlled setting?

At home, you gain privacy, convenience and a setting connected to your life. Choose the rooms you are happy to use and remove private documents or unwanted objects. The home does not need to be perfect; we simply need a workable area and a clear understanding of the desired photographs.

Outdoors, we can use movement, landscape and changing light, but we also plan around walking distance, public attention, weather and access to facilities. A beautiful location is only suitable if you can use it comfortably and legally.

A hired studio or private venue can provide controlled light and backgrounds. Availability and amenities vary, so we confirm the actual space, changing arrangements, access and fees rather than relying on the word “studio.”

Continue the story after your baby arrives

Some families want maternity and newborn and baby photography to share colours, meaningful objects or display styles. Tell us if you hope to create a connected set, and we can record those preferences.

The sessions are still booked separately. Newborn photography follows the baby’s feeding, comfort and pace and requires different planning from maternity portraits. You can decide on the second session later without making it a condition of enjoying this one.

Print and display your favourite portrait

Digital images make announcements and family sharing easy. A finished print can turn one portrait into a lasting part of your home or a meaningful gift. Shammah Media can add a canvas print, frame or photobook when the chosen product is listed in your quotation.

Select the image before deciding on size and format. A vertical portrait, a wide partner photograph and a small detail image suit different displays. We confirm the crop, orientation, finish and quantity before production.

Maternity photography in Nairobi and across Kenya

Shammah Media is based at Taveta Court on Tsavo Road in Nairobi and photographs maternity sessions at suitable homes, outdoor locations and confirmed hired spaces across the city. Sessions elsewhere in Kenya can be assessed based on availability, travel, location and practical requirements. Any travel, accommodation or venue costs will be shown in your quotation where applicable.

What determines your maternity photography quotation

Your session is quoted according to the location, duration, participants, number of planned looks, travel, outside suppliers and finished products. A simple at-home portrait appointment and a styled session in a hired venue have different requirements, so the scope is made clear before you book.

Your written quotation will state what is included, the expected turnaround and any optional products. Share your main priority and budget range if you have one; we can recommend a focused direction that protects the images you value most.
